Located on the banks of the Danube and Morava rivers, Bratislava is the only national capital that borders two independent countries (Austria and Hungary). As well as being its capital, Bratislava is also the cultural and economic centre of Slovakia.

Bratislava’s old town contains many medieval and baroque buildings, including the city hall, which now hosts the City Museum. Cathedrals, castles and cemeteries share space with parks and lakes, all within the city centre itself.

The city holds several annual music festivals and there are resident opera, ballet, and theatre groups that share the refurbished Slovak National Theatre buildings.
