About Bristol

"By Virtue and Industry"

Like many of England's older cities, Bristol lies on the sea. The area was occupied as early as 60,000 years ago and has been continuously inhabited since the Roman era. Even though the city centre is no longer near the original Port of Bristol, shipping and commodity trades are still a major part of the city's economy. In recent years, technology, aerospace, defence, media, financial services and tourism have started to complement the maritime endeavours, making Bristol a well-rounded economic powerhouse. In 2017, the Sunday Times voted Bristol the “best place to live in the UK”.

TV, film and the arts are thriving in Bristol with Aardman Animations, Bottle Yard Film Studios and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School all located in the city.
