Jiangsu Province is a traditionally affluent area in eastern China. The Yangtze River, the longest river in China, passes through the southern part of the province. The Yangtze also passes through Jiangsu's historic capital city, Nanjing.

Jiangsu has the highest GDP per capita of any Chinese province. Suzhou, Kunshan and Wuxi are cities that attract a considerable amount of foreign direct investment.
