This role in Business, Technology, and Solutions (BTS) is for a PhD economist focused on the economics of business development, professional services, and other customer-facing initiatives in AWS. This is a great role for an economist looking to use their skills to drive deep business impact. Business Technology Solutions (BTS) is a diverse team that supports infrastructure and other foundational initiatives that span and support Sales, Marketing and Support teams within AWS.

Examples of the problems you will work on:

- Estimating causal impact of various customer engagements, such as Training, Professional Services, Machine Learnings Solutions Lab, etc.
- Using a mix of machine learning and econometric methods, predict customer- or group-level likelihoods of benefiting from engagements based on rich customer feature set.
- Build scalable analytic solutions using state of the art tools based on large datasets
- Understanding the total value add of various AWS businesses.

Key Responsibilities
§ Develop new econometric models or improve existing approaches using scalable techniques
§ Extract data for analysis and model development from large, complex datasetsPartner closely with Business, Finance, Science, and Tech partners to build prototypes and implement production solutions
§ Closely work with engineering teams to build scalable, efficient systems that implement prototypes in production
§ Distill problem definitions from informal business requirements and communicate technical solutions to senior business leaders
§ Write both technical white papers and business-facing documents to clearly explain complex technical concepts to audiences with diverse business/scientific backgrounds.


§ PhD in Economics or related field
§ 2+ years of experience in industry, research, consulting or government.
§ Proven experience in building statistical models using R, Python, Stata, or a related software
§ Experience working with big datasets
§ Ability to communicate relevant scientific insights from data to senior business leaders and product managers.


§ Experience in machine learning, applications to business problems, and/or big data is preferred.
§ Experience in R strongly preferred. Experience in Python and Spark encouraged.
§ Ability to independently operate in a fast-paced business environment.
§ Effective verbal and written communications skills.
