DESCRIPTION

The Alexa Growth Team is looking for a senior research scientist to help increase engagement and retention efforts across Alexa. We are seeking a talented, self-directed scientist to create advanced models that will impact every aspect of the Alexa customer experience. This is a unique opportunity where you will be working on cutting edge technology and also see it impact customer's lives in meaningful ways.


Key responsibilities include the following:
· Perform hands-on data analysis and modeling with large data sets to develop insights that increase device usage and customer experience
· Run A/B experiments, evaluate the impact of your optimizations and communicate your results to various business stakeholders
· Apply machine learning and data mining techniques to improve the customer experience
· Work closely with product managers and software engineers to design experiments and implement end-to-end solutions
· Be a member of the Amazon-wide Machine Learning Community, participating in internal and external MeetUps, Hackathons and Conferences
· Help attract and recruit technical talent

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· PhD degree with 4 years of applied research experience or a Masters degree and 6+ years of experience of applied research experience
· 3+ years of experience of building machine learning models for business application
· Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Ph.D. in Computer Science, Language Science, Computational Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
· Excellent verbal/written communication skills, including an ability to effectively collaborate with research and technical teams, and earn the trust and influence senior stakeholders
· Track record of communicating well with software engineers and non-technical leaders
· Experience with at least one of the modern distributed ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, MxNet
· Experience with Big Data SQL (such as Hive or Spark)
