We are looking for a seasoned leader to charter continued innovation on behalf of the research science and analytics team at Amazon Go. This role is highly strategic, and this leader will interact with all levels across a broad range of teams across the company.

You will lead a team of data scientists, research scientists, applied scientists, economists and engineers in the development of state-of-the-art models to influence a wide range of decisions within Amazon Go spanning across stochastic optimization (i.e., its application in inventory planning, supply chain management, vendor selection) and beyond! You will oversee a team of Business Intelligence Engineers (BIEs) who provide data, self-service tools and analytics to support Amazon Go.

As the leader of this team, you will:
· Work closely with product, business and engineering teams to set the vision and roadmap for your team.
· Lead scientists and engineers in the development novel machine learning and optimization models, in addition to their deployment in production systems.
· Represent your business and operations to executive leadership across functions.
· Identify new mathematical modeling opportunities, and make business cases for resources to pursue the best of them.
· Hire, develop, and retain top science and analytic talent.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· MS degree in operations research, management science, statistics, engineering, applied mathematics, or computer science –or similar quantitative fields
· 10+ years industrial/academic experience in data science, applied mathematics, machine learning or a related field
· 4+ years managing science teams, hiring and developing science talent within teams focused on quantitative methods such as advanced statistics (e.g., multivariate), statistical learning, or mathematical optimization.
· Proficiency in one or more of object programming languages (e.g., Java, C/C++, Python)
· Expertise in one or more of the following: optimization, probability theory, queuing theory, game theory, simulation, decision analysis, stochastic models, system dynamics, forecasting and mathematical modeling.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills – can provide information to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
· Proven ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously and driving projects to completion.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, along with ability to explain complex technical concepts and analysis implications clearly across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
· Proven track record of driving large scale business results via the application of your models

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· PhD in operations research, management science, statistics, engineering, applied mathematics, or computer science –or similar quantitative fields
· Experience in physical stores and/or other consumer business end-to-end optimization and research and ability to develop system prototypes
· Expertise in one or more of the following: optimization, probability theory, queuing theory, game theory, simulation, decision analysis, stochastic models, system dynamics, forecasting and mathematical modeling.
· Technical aptitude and familiarity with the design and use of complex logistics software systems
· Familiarity with inventory planning concepts - forecasting, planning, optimization, and logistics - gained through work experience or graduate level education
· Fluency working with technical teams
