Principal Evangelist, Open Source, Open Source Strategy & Marketing

Job summary
The OSS Technical Evangelist will be responsible for defining, leading and contributing to the open source and community engagement strategy for service teams across AWS. You will combine your passion and enthusiasm for cloud technology and open source with your unmatched creativity to generate grass-roots attention and support for AWS among key open source communities, industry opinion makers and technologists. You will work closely with the product marketing leadership to translate the business priorities of the service teams into solid engagements with key open source communities, foundations and open source technology partners. You will also be the voice of the community, building a feedback loop to teams across Amazon to help them understand the dynamics and needs of the open source community and build mechanisms to measure impact of our open source engagements.

Ideally, you are already a recognizable figure in the open source ecosystem, in demand to present at significant technology events with an exemplary presence in social media. You are an excellent public speaker communicating original ideas to help guide fellow technologists to successfully use the cloud and open source projects. You have immediate credibility with technical users at all levels, from developers to CIOs. You love to share your passion with others and exhibit good judgment in selecting strategic opportunities to do so. You are able to author compelling written content that appeals directly to technical audiences, business leaders and industry experts.

Within the first year, we expect this impactful leader to:
· Define and execute the open source community engagement strategies for AWS service and technology teams.
· Engage with the open source ecosystem, customers and partners to build strong awareness and perception of our commitment to open source.
· Provide a feedback loop on key Open Source trends and articulate their impact to AWS and build action plans to address gaps and opportunities with the service team
· Organize regular events such as hackathons and technology readouts to socialize the industry engagement and encourage participation from relevant communities
· Build programs to increase inbound and outbound contributor numbers and activities in key AWS and industry projects; building a mechanism to measure impact and perception change of AWS in the Data and Analytics community
· Work closely with the Developer Advocate and Technology Evangelist teams to enable and empower them to be a force multiplier in changing the industry perception of AWS support and engagement in open source
· Enable AWS sales and product marketing teams to speak more coherently about open source in the data and analytics space, with a key focus on how to position our engagements and commitments in light of recent anti-AWS messaging in the community
· Write narratives to influence peers and senior management

· 10+ years experience in technical role such as tech evangelist
-Open Source experience
· Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, technical, or relevant field of study.


· Experience building and scaling a global and high performance team
· Experience working in a fast-paced and highly cross-functional organization.
· Superior oral and written communication skills with an innate attention to detail.
· Proven success managing time and juggling multiple projects in a high growth environment where priorities shift fast.
· Analytical tendencies with a natural curiosity to measure, test, learn and iterate in order to get the best results possible
