Key job responsibilities
As a seasoned engineer you will have an incredible opportunity to learn and navigate among dozens of products and technologies that make up the AbeBooks marketplace. You will appreciate the complexity of the business domain, and learn to value simplicity in software intensive systems. You will dive deep into scaling traffic management, authentication, protecting sensitive data, improving web front-ends and thinking about our customers and how best to delight them. You will have the opportunity to work with Amazon teams and Amazon technologies (especially AWS) as we take advantage of the capabilities of our parent company. Last but not the least, you will be surrounded by smart and approachable colleagues, while living in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of software engineering experience with object-oriented design and programming experience
  • Ability to code in Java
  • Take pride in being able to refactor code safely
  • Enjoy testing and safely changing code
  • Have customer obsession and a passion for delighting them
  • Work well in a team
  • Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal guidance
  • Growth mindset and always learning new things

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with the following would be beneficial:

  • Java ecosystem
  • Front-end: JavaScript/Typescript
  • Python
  • AWS ecosystem
  • Devops tools and culture
