Job summary
Amazon is looking for a talented and experienced attorney to work directly with Amazon's EU Sustainability team to drive its ESG strategy and reporting. With new mandatory ESG reporting requirements being considered and adopted in many parts of the world, including the EU, UK and US, you will support the EU Sustainability team and other key stakeholders at Amazon who are working to develop new approaches and capabilities to meet those challenges and advance Amazon’s commitment to sustainability.

In 2019, Amazon co-founded The Climate Pledge and announced our commitment to achieve net-zero carbon emissions across our business by 2040. In 2020, we launched The Climate Pledge Fund, a $2 billion fund that invests in and supports the development of sustainable and decarbonizing technologies and services. In addition, Amazon is working on numerous sustainability initiatives related to our buildings, operations, transportation, sustainable shopping, and many others.

As part of this role, you will be working alongside many different Amazon teams, including the EU Sustainability team, Public Policy, Accounting, Finance, HR and others, on our programmatic efforts to report on our ESG initiatives and metrics amidst quickly evolving ESG disclosure requirements in the EU and UK, and you will be a key stakeholder in advising and preparing Amazon businesses on upcoming ESG reporting compliance obligations.

You will work with stakeholders across Amazon, including the broader Legal team, Public Policy, Public Relations and Investor Relations on matters relating to EU and UK ESG reporting requirements and disclosures. You will collaborate on and provide support for initiatives and legal issues related to Amazon’s ESG and sustainability reporting strategy and regulatory compliance regarding mandatory ESG reporting requirements. You will also be responsible for identifying opportunities for and implementing process improvements in those areas.


Key job responsibilities
• Advising on Amazon’s ESG reporting strategy and approach under current and emerging regulations and integrated sustainability reporting requirements;
• Working with the EU Sustainability team on the development and preparation of Amazon’s Sustainability Report, including Amazon’s ESG disclosures and disclosures strategy and roadmap;
• Advising on internal processes and practices to support ESG-related EU and UK governance requirements and expectations;
• Counseling on current and emerging Sustainability and ESG reporting requirements and policy engagement strategies in the EU and UK;
• Providing guidance on ESG reporting standards and frameworks, such as GRI, TCFD and ISSB;
• Developing and implementing internal processes to meet third-party assurance and verification requirements; and
• Engaging with internal and external stakeholders on EU and UK ESG reporting and disclosures.


About the team
The WW Sustainability Legal team supports sustainability efforts underway across Amazon. These include Amazon’s efforts to decrease its carbon footprint in line with The Climate Pledge, increase selection and customer awareness of more sustainable products, and support our commitment to human rights across our value chain. In 2021, we were named Financial Times’ Most Innovative In-House Sustainability Legal Team in North America.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Qualified lawyer in the UK/EU or internationally recognized legal qualification
• 3+ years of legal experience in counseling companies on ESG reporting and/or corporate, securities and governance matters;
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed; and
• Great judgment, common sense, enthusiasm, and a good sense of humor; and
• Commitment to sustainable development and helping Amazon meet its goals under The Climate Pledge.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• A mix of law firm and in-house experience with large, multinational, complex companies advising on ESG or financial reporting;
• Experience working with regulators and public policy experts on proposed legislation and regulations;
• Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations;
• Ability to work independently while being able to contribute successfully to cross-functional teams; and
• Hands-on project management experience, including excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage and prioritize a large number of projects and attention to detail.
