Job summary
We are looking for detail-oriented, organized, and responsible individuals who are eager to learn how to work with large and complicated data sets. Some knowledge of econometrics, as well as basic familiarity with Python is necessary, and experience with SQL and UNIX would be a plus.

This is a full-time position at 40 hours per week during the summer months and 20 hours per week for 3-9 months after summer depending on project progress. The compensation will be awarded on an hourly basis. You will learn how to build data sets and perform applied econometric analysis at Internet speed collaborating with economists, scientists, and product managers. These skills will translate well into writing applied chapters in your dissertation and provide you with work experience that may help you with placement.

Key job responsibilities
Apply economics to modeling the behavior of economic players; simulate the potential outcomes of different mechanisms; design tools to understand the preference of economic players; and make business recommendations based on quantitative research.

About the team
We are a team of seasoned economists that collaborate closely with core business people in Amazon. Our projects apply economic insights to practical problems and develop evidence-based business recommendations.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in Economics or closely related field

  • PhD student in Economics (enrolled in 3rd year or more and not currently on the job market)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Solid training in applied microeconomics
  • Experience with R and Python
  • Experience with SQL
  • Familiarity with UNIX
  • Experience working with large data sets
  • Knowledge of econometrics
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
