The Systems Architecture group at Amazon Robotics works across disciplines to balance technical priorities and business drivers, simplify and ensure correctness of system design, and ensure efficient integration of subsystems across disparate domains. Our team focuses on concept and new product programs for complex systems that have concurrent development and tightly-coupled integration across disciplines, important safety requirements, or long hardware lead times or architectural constraints that inhibit rapid design iterations. The team adapts traditional systems engineering tools and best practices for the speed of development at Amazon. We use multidisciplinary analysis, integrative modeling, and systems engineering frameworks to simultaneously increase performance and robustness, while reducing cost, timeline, and the number of iterations required to deliver value to the customer.

Amazon Robotics is seeking a Systems Engineer/Architect to join a dynamic team that provides systems leadership for concept development, architecture, and design of robotics systems and industrial equipment. In this role, you will:
• Participate in high level exploration and analysis of business problems and user needs
• Use structured tradespace analysis methods to identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale
• Develop first-order models based on first principles or historical data using various tools (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, Python, internal tools) to estimate the performance of new robotic system concepts
• Decompose and frame problems using CONOPS, use cases, functional/physical decompositions, and other system representations to clarify needs and align technical teams
• Help flowdown use cases and requirements to development groups and align teams across interfaces


•Experience communicating with stakeholders to elicit and clarify business and end user needs, and translate those needs to system requirements and concepts
•Experience developing early-stage system models and applying quantitative methods to understand and evaluate high-dimensional, coupled design decisions
•Experience leading technical collaborations and creating alignment across diverse groups (e.g., technical disciplines, subsystem teams, development partners)
•Understanding of systems engineering tools and best practices
•BS or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Research, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, or another STEM discipline
•4+ years of experience


•Experience developing integrated, high-dimensional parametric models
•Experience with analyzing the financial impact and sensitivity to different technical alternatives in the design space.
•Experience with techniques to create robust and flexible design strategies
•Experience developing complex hardware/software systems from concept to deployment
•Advanced degree in an Engineering field
•6+ years of experience in system design or analysis
