Software Development Manager, Resilience Infrastructure & Solutions

How would you like to have the opportunity to be part of a new AWS service that will have impact across every internet facing product on our platform? We are looking for an exceptional engineering manager to be part of a world class team and own the development of a recently launched AWS service. Route 53 Application Recovery Controller will be a core building block that customers and other AWS services will use to build highly resilient applications spanning the globe. This new service will be required to scale with AWS, which means the challenges here will be highly distributed in nature.
You should be somebody who is passionate about customers, and running a highly available distributed platform. You must enjoy a close-knit team environment of shared responsibility. The ideal candidate will have strong technical background and have deep experience defining new technical products from ambiguous requirements. The leader coming in will have to be technically deep, and capable of quickly coming up to speed on the technologies we work with here, and be able to coach engineers as we work through some of the most challenging problems at AWS.
This team will be based out of Seattle and Portland, with end to end ownership of core systems related to Route 53 Application Recovery Controller. You will be responsible for growing this team and driving significant capabilities in coordination with the other teams based out of Seattle.
Successful candidates will have experience managing engineers working on distributed systems, networking and AWS services. You must have outstanding analytical skills and excellent communication. You will thrive in a highly collaborative, creative, analytical, and fast-paced environment and are comfortable interacting with highly technical software and networking development teams.
As part of this team you will:
- Manage delivery of a complex software project spanning networking, infrastructure, chaos engineering and UX.
- Own defining, scoping and launching a highly impactful public features
- Make critical design decisions with impact across AWS
- Coach software engineers of all levels
- Project manage and drive large cross functional deliverables

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of engineering team management experience
- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience partnering with product or program management teams
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $148,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
