Snr. Technical Program Manager, Gifting
DESCRIPTION
As the Technical Program Manager (TPM) for the Gifting team, you will play a vital role improving the customer experience for millions of customers worldwide. You will be responsible for managing the lifecycle of a complex, cross-functional program that spans the entire shopping experience, from inspiration and discovery to purchase, delivery, and returns.
You will focus on addressing key customer problems in the gifting space, such as the need for better gift inspiration, a more convenient buying and sending experience, and the ability to create the perfect gifting moment. To achieve this, you will work closely with partner teams across Amazon, aligning implementation plans and managing complex projects to deliver impactful solutions in a timely manner.
Your technical expertise and sound judgment will be instrumental in ensuring the solutions you champion are scalable, innovative, and aligned with the company's long-term goals.
Key job responsibilities
- Drive cross-functional collaboration and coordination to deliver on complex, multi-team initiatives.
- Manage the program roadmap, including contributing to yearly planning documents (OP1/OP2) narratives and owning organizational goals.
- Demonstrate a deep understanding of the Gifting domain, including the systems, limitations, scaling factors, and architectural decisions.
- Use your technical judgment to question proposals, test assumptions, and ensure scalable solutions are developed.
- Make informed trade-offs between time, effort, and features, ensuring optimal outcomes.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks before they become roadblocks, demonstrating sound judgment in escalation.
- Review metrics regularly and seek new data sources to improve visibility and decision-making.
- Facilitate mindful discussions with business and technical stakeholders to ensure alignment and drive crisp decision-making.
- Effectively communicate progress, outcomes, and recommendations to Directors, VPs, and other senior leaders.
A day in the life
- Working with cross functional stakeholders (e.g.: engineers, product managers, software development managers, UX designers) to deliver projects on time and in scope.
- Communicating with partner teams and their leadership on planned improvements to the customer experience.
- Producing planning documents, evaluating trade-offs and stress testing assumptions to deliver large scale projects.
- Seeing around corners to identify risks, identifying potential problems before they impact the team.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in technical program management working directly with software engineering teams
- Experience managing technical programs across cross-functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
- Experience working directly with engineering teams
- Experience in system design
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management
- Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
- Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
