About Warsaw

The “Phoenix City”

For centuries, Warsaw was troubled with shuffling empires: it was pillaged by the Swedes or occupied by the Russians for decades. Finally it had an opportunity to breathe and start to flourish after 1918. However, soon afterwards, it came under the rule of Nazi Germany and then came a difficult period of rebuilding and getting back on its own two.

All this might have painted a picture of Warsaw as a gloomy and miserable city. But that was then and this is now: the city is boosting with optimism, having gone through drastic changes. Today, the city is bustling with a busy streets, bars, cafes and world-class restaurants. As if trying to mark a break from its gloomy past, Warsaw is showing off with its colourful churches, stunning mansions and palaces, vivid Old City full of buildings adorned with dazzling architectural details. In this city you can find buildings that are representatives of nearly almost every European architectural style or historical period.
