"By Virtue and Industry"
Like many of England's older cities, Bristol lies on the sea. The area has been occupied as early as 60,000 years ago, and has been continuously inhabited since the Roman era. Even though the city proper is no longer centered on the location of the original Port of Bristol, shipping and commodities trades are still a major part of the city's economy. In recent years, technology, aerospace, defense, media, financial services and tourism have all grown to balance the maritime endeavors, making Bristol a well-rounded economic powerhouse. In 2017, the Sunday Times voted Bristol “best place to live in the UK”.
TV, film and the arts are thriving in Bristol with Aardman Animations, Bottle Yard Film Studios and the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School all committed to the city.
