Fukuoka-shi is the capital city of Fukuoka Prefecture.
Fukuoka is Japan's 6th largest city and the population is more than 1.5 million. It is home to many festivals (matsuri) that are held throughout the year. Of these, the most famous are Hakata Dontaku and Hakata Gion Yamakasa.
