We are looking for an exceptional lawyer to support payments issues for Amazon's payments’ and fintech business in the Middle East and beyond, which includes Amazon Payment Services, a payment services business. Key job responsibilities
You will counsel the business on a broad range of commercial and regulatory matters, including negotiating with regional and global banks, facilitating local and cross-border payments and funds transfers, and complying with anti-money laundering and other payments related laws and regulations. You will work directly with the business in structuring, drafting and negotiating commercial transactions; provide day-to-day advice; resolve issues that arise in existing commercial relationships; and handle pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries.


A day in the life
Primary duties include handling legal issues in creative, business-centric ways. You will build processes that address risk and allow the business flexibility and freedom to move quickly. In addition to structuring, drafting, and negotiating commercial transactions and business structures, you will help resolve issues that arise in commercial relationships. You will be advising the business on a wide range of issues, working with: Compliance, PR, Public Policy, Marketing, Product, Finance and Tax teams to structure, negotiate and draft general business transactions and drive policy change and improvement across the business.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Strong academic credentials including a law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university and/or law school is required
- 6+ years of legal experience (with at least two years at a law firm) as a transactional attorney, preferably with some portion of that experience in payments, fintech, financial regulatory, data protection, technology or commercial transactions
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, as well as demonstrated proficiency in working closely with and advising senior executives of an organization

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Previous legal experience in the payments, fintech or financial services industries
- A mix of corporate law firm and in-house experience
- Hands-on project management experience, including excellent organizational skills, the ability to manage a large number and variety of mission-critical projects, working independently and often in ambiguous environment
- Team player and consensus builder with great people skills and a good sense of humor who can effectively and efficiently collaborate and build relationships with attorneys and business clients at all levels throughout the organization
- Strong analytical and computer skills
- Common sense and great judgment
- Strong leadership skills
- Has relentlessly high standards
- Thinks strategically, but stays on top of tactical execution, responding openly and flexibly to change
- Experience in crisis management and response
- Business acumen combined with ability to identify optimal solutions, including novel, creative and innovative solutions to complex issues
- Some financial compliance experience, including AML
- Arabic language skills
