A day in the life
The AWS Rack Power team is driving rapid innovation in the power systems used by Amazon Web Services. Our designs are fundamentally changing the data center, providing operational and financial benefits that are critical to the success of the AWS business and its millions of customers. We design and build power equipment used by Amazon.com and AWS services such as EC2, EBS, S3, Glacier, and Outpost. Our engineers solve challenging technology problems, and take big bets on new concepts, enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry.
What you will do: as a member of the Rack Power team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and deploying distributed software systems and large-scale solutions for our world-wide installed fleet. You will work closely with sofware, hardware, and systems engineers to develop firmware for our power conversion product line. You will own the end-to-end design of new firmware and tools on a continuous improvement and technically challenging environment. You will be a software subject matter expert on new product development efforts, defining the architecture of future AWS technologies to deliver a world-class customer experience. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you will work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You will have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you will be constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance, quality and cost. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- 5+ years of programming using a modern programming language such as Java, C++, or C#, including object-oriented design experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
