As a Sr. Technical Program Manager (TPM) you will coordinate the most ambiguous and impactful projects in Books tech from Amazon’s HQ2 in Arlington, VA. You are a highly visible leader that will own the communication, coordination, and execution of several large-scale projects. You work with engineers and leaders to define strategy and requirements. You make appropriate trade-offs between business and technical constraints, clearly communicate goals, status, roles and responsibilities. You identify opportunities to converge overlapping technical efforts, and drive the long-term strategy with the support of engineering leaders.

A TPM in this role will rapidly gain a deep understanding of the end-to-end architecture of Amazon's book content and metadata ingestion tech, from feed processing, to publishing to the central catalog, and much more. They will work with business and financial stakeholders, software teams and operations teams to drive architectural changes that will optimize the publishing capabilities that we offer publishers, independent authors, distributors, and 3P sellers. The optimal candidate can articulate when a new service, integration or interface is needed (and when it is not). They will have a well-rounded technical background as well as a history of leading large projects end-to-end. This opportunity requires excellent technical, problem-solving, and communication skills. High level judgment, negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent, and leadership are essential to success. The candidate is not just a spokesperson for projects but drives to get the right things done. This role is fundamentally about delivery, and the Sr. Technical Program Manager will succeed using their strong working knowledge of Program Management methodologies in Amazon’s fast-paced, dynamic environment. This Sr. Technical Program Manager will have the responsibility to present to Sr. Leadership on a regular basis, demonstrating the ability to synthesize problems and their solutions with brevity and coherence.


Key job responsibilities
Develop and manage projects from ideation through execution, including project scope, timeline, and project execution; coordinating remote work closely with engineers and external teams
Address bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs and balance business needs against technical constraints
Develop business metrics and KPIs to measure privacy compliance
Provide consistent, executive-level reporting on project status and outcomes
Demonstrate effective communication skills (both verbal and written) across all levels of the business
Influence senior leaders across Books, Fulfillment, and Finance teams
Communicate progress, changes, issues, and resolutions clearly to all stakeholders

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience
- 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
- 3+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
- Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules
- Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
