Amazon established the Amazon Military SkillBridge (AMSB) program through a collaborative effort with the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) by making the company an approved DoD SkillBridge provider. Amazon can now provide military members, who are separating within 180 days of service, with fellowship and apprenticeship opportunities in a variety of different Amazon roles. The purpose of the program is to convert high-performing AMSB participants into full-time positions, just in time for their military transition into the civilian sector.

About Amazon Operations

Amazon's mission is "to be Earth's most customer-centric company," and our Operations and award-winning Customer Service teams are at the heart of that mission. Supported by innovative world-class technologies, our global network of FCs, delivery stations, and customer service teams is dedicated to supporting customers worldwide.

At Amazon, thousands of veterans are driving innovation and raising the bar on the customer experience. Each day, they apply their knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities in a wide variety of careers around the world on behalf of our customers. Veterans have succeeded in challenging environments, making them adaptive and resilient under pressure, and as a result they bring unique value to any team at Amazon.

Area Manager

Area Managers motivate and coach teams of Amazon associates to maintain the highest levels of safety, quality, attendance performance, and work engagement. In this role, you will provide associates with the tools they need for success, and drive productivity through data-driven decisions and analytical problem-solving.

Area Managers spend the majority of their shifts connecting directly with their team. Time is also devoted to diving deep into data and continuous improvement projects.

Operations Manager

Operations Managers lead and supervise Area Managers. Through continuous mentoring, they develop their teams to become data-driven leaders who implement process improvements that scale across our organization. Operations Managers are expected to continually identify ways to improve our operations and engage with site and regional leadership to implement improvements on behalf of customers.

Operations Managers report to a senior Operations Manager. Excellent communication skills with all levels of management and staff are imperative.

AMSB Pathways

The mission of the Fellowship program is to build an experience that allows each Fellow, regardless of final hiring decision, to grow professionally and feel impactful while providing Amazon with the opportunity to identify those who demonstrate the ability to thrive in our culture as Pathways Operations leaders. The program is a project-based Fellowship built around the crucible experience of solving a challenging, real-world problem impacting the sponsoring site and larger network.

Operations teams support either first mile, middle mile, or last mile. This refers to the journey of a package, from order to delivery. Our fulfillment network is made up of state-of-the-art technology and a variety of building types and sizes to support customer fulfillment.

SORTABLE

In sortable buildings, Amazon associates pick, pack, and ship customer orders such as books, toys, and housewares. Thanks to the innovations of Amazon Robotics, associates often work alongside robots, allowing them to learn new skills and helping create a more efficient process to meet customer demand.

NON-SORTABLE

In non-sortable buildings, associates pick, pack, and ship bulky or larger-sized customer items such as patio furniture, outdoor equipment, or rugs.

SORTATION CENTERS

At sort centers, associates organize customer orders by final destination and consolidate them onto trucks for faster delivery. Our sort center network powers our ability to deliver packages every day, including Sundays, which customers love.

RECEIVE CENTERS

Amazon’s receive centers receive large orders of inventory that we expect to sell quickly and allocate it to fulfillment centers within the network.

SPECIALTY

Amazon’s fulfillment network is also supported by additional types of buildings that handle specific categories of items or are pressed into service at peak times of the year.

DELIVERY STATIONS

In these buildings, customer orders are prepared for last-mile delivery to customers. Amazon delivery providers enable fast shipping every day of the week.

Our fulfillment network launches new sites every year, providing endless opportunity for your growth. We hire Area Managers and Operations Managers based on location preference and our current openings.

How do I apply for AMSB?

Apply for the opportunities listed above now if you meet all basic qualifications – we can still consider you for the program while we wait on your commander's approval. If you need SkillBridge paperwork completed prior to the interview, or have any other general questions about this program, please reach out to militaryskillbridge@amazon.com.

How do I get chain of command approval with my service branch?

You can find instructions on the DoD SkillBridge website.

The roles and locations for AMSB aren't what I'm looking for, what other options do you have for me?

If AMSB opportunities don't fit your needs, you can look into the Hiring Our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program (HOH CFP). Once you apply and are accepted into this program, your resume will be forwarded to participating businesses for consideration. Amazon has participated in the HOH CFP since 2015, so we look forward to seeing your resume come through and hopefully identify a role for you to fill at that time. You can also see the hundreds of other SkillBridge opportunities with other companies on the DoD SkillBridge website.

I'm already out of service, am I eligible for this program?

No, unfortunately this program is only for service members who are within the last 180 days of military service - but you can still register for the Amazon Global Military Affairs Webinars. These virtual sessions occur every week, and you can connect with recruiters and hiring managers directly in regards to their specific opportunities.

I'm in the Guard/Reserves, am I eligible for this program?

Yes, however each military installation treats this program differently for this military status, so be sure to check in with your chain of command. Please note, this information was pulled from the FAQs page on the DoD Skillbridge website.

Are there any tips to prepare for the application and interview process for AMSB?
