Our team develops cutting-edge AI solutions to tackle the most difficult challenges that hinder the search experience on Amazon. To accomplish this, we invest in large language models (LLM), multi-modal Generative AI models, and other related DL methods.

We are looking for a passionate Senior Applied Scientist talented in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and Information Retrieval, to invent and build scalable solutions for improving sponsored products experience in the contet of Amazon Search.

A successful candidate will have strong machine learning background and a desire to push the envelope in one or more of the above areas. The ideal candidate would also have hands-on experiences in building end-to-end Generative AI solutions (mainly with LLMs and multi-modal foundation models), enjoy operating in dynamic environments, be self-motivated to take on challenging high-ambiguity problems to deliver big customer impact.



Key job responsibilities
As a Sr. Applied Scientist in the team, you will:

- Seek to understand in depth the Sponsored Products offering at Amazon and identify areas of opportunities to grow our business using AI solutions.

- Mentor and guide the applied scientists in our organization and hold us to a high standard of technical rigor and excellence in ML.

- Design and lead AI roadmaps and solutions aimed at helping our Amazon shoppers have a delightful shopping experience while creating long term value for our sellers.

- Work with our engineering partners and draw upon your experience to meet latency and other system constraints.

- Identify untapped, high-risk technical and scientific directions, and devise new research directions that you will drive to completion and deliver.

- Be responsible for communicating our AI innovations to the broader internal & external scientific community.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
- PhD, or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
- Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning
- Developing and productionizing solutions that involve generative-AI models.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience with modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, numpy, scipy etc.
- Experience with large scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark etc.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
