Alexa is a voice Artificial Intelligence (AI) and is more “intelligence” than “artificial”. Alexa lives in the cloud and is happy to help anywhere there's internet access and an Alexa-enabled device. Talking to Alexa feels like talking to a friend or family member. The more customers interact, the better Alexa learns speech patterns, vocabulary, likes, and dislikes. As a voice AI, Alexa encourages customers to discover more about the things they already love and explore new things they haven’t yet imagined.

The Alexa team first began with the development of Amazon Echo, a device designed entirely around your voice. With a mission to make Alexa available to everyone, everywhere, at any time, the Alexa team added a wide range of smart home devices to the Echo line-up, from speakers (Echo Dot, Echo Studio, Echo Sub), to displays (Echo Show), to accessories (Echo buds, Echo frames, Smart plug, Echo Auto). The Alexa team partnered with the Amazon Devices team so that our customers can experience what they already love about Alexa without the need for an Echo device. Products like Fire TV and Fire tablets integrate seamlessly with Alexa, and provide customers with the best Alexa experiences possible.

And the team didn't stop there. There are now more than 140,000 Alexa-compatible smart home products, and hundreds of products and vehicles with Alexa Built-in making it easy for developers, device makers, auto manufacturers, content providers, and businesses to bring the Alexa experiences to their customers.

The teams are continuously working on behalf of the customer to push boundaries to define new frontiers, new roles, and new ways to support all humans. They work to create differentiated experiences, ambient devices, developer and partner enablement, global expansion, and AI advancements.
